We Check For You

EyeMed has dozens of different plan tiers (Insight, Access, Select, etc.). When you book your appointment, simply provide us with your member ID, and our expert staff will pull your exact benefit breakdown so you know exactly what is covered before you even sit in the exam chair.

Understanding Your Coverage

How to Use Your EyeMed Benefits

While every specific employer plan is slightly different, here is how typical EyeMed plans function in our office.

1. The Routine Exam

Most EyeMed plans cover a comprehensive, routine eye exam once every 12 months. You will typically only be responsible for a small copay (often between $10 and $20).

Note: Advanced retinal imaging (like Optomap) is an optional medical upgrade and is usually not covered by basic vision plans.

2. Glasses (Frames & Lenses)

Frames: EyeMed gives you a retail allowance (e.g., $130, $150, or $200). If you pick a designer frame over that amount, you simply pay the difference, plus you get a 20% discount on the overage!

Lenses: Standard plastic lenses are usually fully covered. You will have set copays for premium upgrades like Polycarbonate, Anti-Reflective coatings (Crizal), or Progressives.

3. Contact Lenses

If you prefer contacts over glasses, EyeMed provides an allowance to be used toward your contact lens evaluation/fitting fee and the boxes of lenses themselves.

The Choice: EyeMed (like all vision plans) covers EITHER glasses OR contact lenses for the year, but not both.

Using EyeMed for Luxury & Premium Optics

Having vision insurance does not mean you are restricted to a "budget" section of the store. At Westwood & Montrose, you can absolutely use your EyeMed benefits toward our most exclusive designer brands and advanced ophthalmic lenses.

  • Designer Frames

Apply your EyeMed allowance directly to luxury brands like Dior, Tom Ford, Prada, and Cutler & Gross. You just pay the remaining balance at a 20% discount.

  • Premium Lenses (ZEISS & Essilor)

EyeMed offers tiered copay structures for premium lens designs. This means you can upgrade to advanced tech like ZEISS SmartLife, Transitions? GEN S, or Varilux? Progressives at a significantly reduced, contracted rate.

We Maximize Your Plan

Navigating insurance tiers, copays, and allowances is confusing. Our expert opticians will price out your ideal pair of glasses and show you exactly how much your EyeMed plan is saving you, ensuring you get the absolute most value out of your benefits.

Routine Vision vs. Medical Care

EyeMed is a Vision Plan, not a medical insurance plan. It is designed to cover routine wellness checks and prescribe glasses or contacts for healthy eyes.

If you come in with a medical complaint (such as eye pain, a red/infected eye, sudden flashes or floaters, or severe dry eye), or if Dr. Fouladian manages an existing medical condition (like Glaucoma, Cataracts, or Diabetes), we are legally required to bill your MEDICAL insurance (e.g., Blue Cross, Medicare, Aetna), not EyeMed.

* Note: If we bill your medical insurance for the health evaluation, you can still use your EyeMed benefits on the same day to purchase your glasses or contacts!
