Presbyopia Eye Drops

VIZZ™, Vuity™, and Qlosi™: The future of glass-free reading.

Vuity® Eye Drops for Presbyopia | Westwood & Montrose Eye Center

A New Way to See Near

For years, the only solution for Presbyopia was reading glasses. Now, FDA-approved eye drops utilize the "Pinhole Effect" to constrict the pupil, creating an extended depth of focus that allows you to read clearly without affecting your distance vision significantly.

Comparing Your Options

Dr. Fouladian will help you decide which formulation fits your lifestyle.

VIZZ™

Aceclidine 1.44%

The newest innovation using a different molecule (Aceclidine). It is "Pupil Selective," meaning it makes the pupil smaller without over-stimulating the focusing muscle.

  • 10 Hours: Longest duration.
  • Comfort: Less "brow ache" than Pilocarpine drops.
  • Distance: Maintains sharper distance vision.

VUITY™

Pilocarpine 1.25%

The original FDA-approved drop. Uses a high concentration of Pilocarpine to strongly constrict the pupil.

  • 6 Hours: Good for half-day use.
  • Potent: Strong near-vision effect.
  • Side Effects: Higher risk of headache/brow ache.

Qlosi™

Pilocarpine 0.4%

A lower-concentration, preservative-free formulation designed for flexibility and comfort.

  • Flexible: Can be dosed twice daily.
  • Gentle: Less initial stinging.
  • Duration: Shorter effect per drop.

What to Expect

While these drops are revolutionary, they function by reducing light intake. Understanding the visual experience is key to success.

The "Dimming" Effect

Because the pupil is smaller, less light enters the eye. Indoors, things may appear dimmer (like wearing light sunglasses). Night driving is not recommended while the drops are active.

Adaptation

With VIZZ™, the unique mechanism (Aceclidine) minimizes the muscle spasm that causes brow aches, offering a smoother adaptation period compared to older Pilocarpine drops.

Critical Safety Warning

Retinal Safety: Any drop that stimulates the internal eye muscles can theoretically exert traction on the retina. While VIZZ™ minimizes this traction compared to others, safety is our priority.

A comprehensive dilated retinal exam or Optomap® imaging with Dr. Fouladian is MANDATORY before prescribing these drops to ensure your retina is healthy enough for treatment.

Ongoing Monitoring Required
For your continued safety, patients using these drops must return for a dilated retinal health check every 3 to 6 months to monitor for any changes.
