Westwood & Montrose Eye Center is proud to be an In-Network Provider for Spectera (the vision care subsidiary of UnitedHealthcare).
Staying in-network ensures you get the highest frame allowances, the lowest copays for your comprehensive eye exam, and significant discounts on premium lens upgrades—all without the hassle of submitting out-of-network reimbursement claims yourself. We handle the direct billing for you.
Spectera plans can vary based on your employer. When you book your appointment, simply provide us with the primary subscriber's SSN or member ID, and our expert staff will securely pull your exact benefit breakdown so you know what is covered before you arrive.

Here is a general breakdown of how typical Spectera / UHC Vision plans function in our office.
Most Spectera plans cover a comprehensive, routine eye exam once every 12 months. You will typically only be responsible for a small copay (often between $10 and $20).
Frames: Spectera gives you a retail allowance (e.g., $130 or $150). If you pick a designer frame over that amount, you simply pay the difference.
Lenses: Standard plastic lenses are usually fully covered. You will have set copays for premium upgrades like Polycarbonate, Anti-Reflective coatings, or Progressives.
If you prefer contacts over glasses, Spectera provides an allowance to be used toward your contact lens evaluation/fitting fee and the boxes of lenses themselves.
The Choice: Vision plans cover EITHER glasses OR contact lenses for the year, but not both at the same time.
At Westwood & Montrose, having insurance doesn't mean you are restricted to a "budget" section. You can absolutely use your Spectera benefits toward our most exclusive designer brands and advanced ophthalmic lenses.
Apply your Spectera allowance directly to luxury brands like Dior, Tom Ford, Prada, and Cutler & Gross.
Spectera offers tiered copay structures for premium lens designs. Upgrade to advanced tech like Transitions? GEN S, Anti-Fatigue lenses, or premium Progressives at a reduced, contracted rate.
Our expert opticians will price out your ideal pair of glasses and show you exactly how much your Spectera plan is saving you, ensuring you get the absolute most value out of your benefits.
Explore Our Optical BoutiqueSpectera is a Routine Vision Plan. It is designed to cover standard wellness checks and prescribe glasses or contacts for healthy eyes.
If you come in with a medical complaint (such as eye pain, a red/infected eye, flashes or floaters, or severe dry eye), or if Dr. Fouladian manages an existing medical condition (like Glaucoma, Cataracts, or Diabetes), we are legally required to bill your MEDICAL insurance (e.g., UnitedHealthcare Medical), not Spectera.
* Note: If we bill your medical insurance for the health evaluation, you can still use your Spectera vision benefits on the exact same day to purchase your glasses or contacts!
Vision benefits typically expire at the end of the calendar year. Don't let them go to waste. Text or call us today to schedule your comprehensive exam.
